Choosing a business degree is like placing a bet on the future: you are trying to look forward far enough to decide what program will benefit you over the course of your career. When it comes time for you to place that bet, an international business degree may be as close to a sure thing as you can find.
International Business Offers Booming Career Prospects
Trying to make long-term career plans is challenging because the economy is always changing. It's always tough to project what areas of business will be thriving in the future, and which jobs here in the U.S. will be lost to foreign competition.
An international business degree will help you take advantage of the powerful trend toward growing international business and trade. An international business degree can also position you to take advantage of the global economy, rather than being victimized by it.
International Business and Trade On the Rise
The growth in international business and trade is undeniable. To some extent, all the focus on the U.S. trade deficit has obscured the fact that both imports and exports have been rising. Combined, they make international business and trade a significant portion of the U.S. economy.
Looking at imports and exports combined gives us the full picture of international business and trade. In 2006, imports and exports combined were equivalent to 27.47% of U.S. Gross Domestic Product, up from 26.23% in 2005. In short, international business is already significant, and still rising.
International Business Degrees
For a student who wants to be part of the rise in international business, what educational programs would be appropriate? The following are some examples of international business degrees:
- BS in International Business
- Graduate Certificate in International Business
- MBA/Global Management
- MBA/International Business
No matter what specific field you get into, there is a growing chance that international trade will be a factor in that business. This makes an international business degree a good bet on the economic future.
