International Business Degrees: A Passport to India

These days, getting an international business degree can be a passport to India, the second-fastest growing economy in the world. American business schools, taking note of India's stellar growth, are keeping a close watch on business developments there, and looking to form closer ties with Indian schools and companies that can benefit them and students.

Sending International Business Students Abroad

"We would certainly like Indian companies to know the ability and excellence of our students and recruit them. With a tie-up with the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), our students now can visit India and avail of the opportunity to know the growing economy and getting placed here too," R. Glenn Hubbard, dean of Columbia Business School, told the National Network of Education.

Faculty Exchange Programs

Not only are international business schools sending students to India, but they are accepting Indian students to study in America. Stanford and MIT's business schools have student exchange programs, as well as exchanges to help train faculty members. Columbia is even looking at developing a customized executive management program to help Indian managers improve their skills.

International Business Degrees Open Doors

India's booming economy offers new job opportunities for students studying at international business schools. Visiting India can help students working toward an international business degree become more familiar with Indian companies and learn about new fields like micro-finance and the non-governmental organizations (NGO) sector, according to Hubbard.

If India continues to experience such strong growth, it could become the world's fifth-largest economy within 10 years, and the second-largest by mid-century (surpassed only by China), according to a report by investment bank Goldman Sachs. That growth adds up to more job opportunities abroad for American students who graduate from international business schools.
