Accounting Doctorates Are in High Demand
A shortage of professionals with accounting doctorates has led to higher salaries in recent years for new graduates entering the job market. Much of the shortage is attributed to a growing number of older professors retiring. According to a study by the American Accounting Association and Accounting Programs Leadership Group, the number of new accounting PhDs from 2005-08 would barely meet 50% of the demand. Here are other intriguing details to consider:
- From 2002-04, less than 100 accounting doctorates were awarded each year, according to the Hasselback Accounting Faculty Directory.
- New accounting doctorates earned a mean salary of $118,500 at accredited universities during the 2005-06 academic year, reports the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
